For over 30 years now, during which time Margaret has specialized in Wedding Cakes. But she will do any special occasion cakes as well. Margaret has designed some of her own wedding cakes which have appeared on the website, bridal magazines, and the local newspapers.
Q. How Close To My Wedding Should I Book My Wedding Cake?
We recommend you book at least 4-6 months before your wedding date to allow Quality for your cake. A good idea is to make an initial contact by phone to see if your date is available first, with Cakes For All Occasions, when you book your wedding venue etc.
Q. How Do I Order My Wedding Cake?
Contact Margaret at Cakes For All Occasions to make an appointment. Evening appointments during the week are very popular with clients and Saturday morning only-- where all aspects of your cake are Discussed at this appointment. All cakes are by appointment only.
Q. What Sizes Of The Tiers Of Wedding Cakes Do You Offer?
This will depend on the number of guests at your wedding and the type of cake or cakes you choose.
Q What Flavours Do You Offer As Wedding Cakes?
Margaret has nine flavours to choose from: her own secret chocolate mud cake recipe which is proving very popular with modern brides, our fruit wedding cake is a family recipe a lovely cake soaked in ginger ale and brandy, plus Carrot, Banana, Lemon Madeira, Moist Chocolate, Vanilla, Coffee, and Light Sultana. Each cake is individually mixed.
Q. Can I Have Different Flavours For Each Tier?
Yes, you can have each tier a different flavour. As most modern brides do not like Fruit cake, most Brides have now having their cake as dessert, or some Brides have the traditional fruit cake, either as a top tier to keep for their anniversary or as a christening cake. The fruit cake can last several years stored well into an air tight container in the freezer. Your choices are endless. Soft cakes do not keep for long storage.
Q. What Colours May I Have As My Top Covering On My Cake?
Today there are a number of choices you can have. From Pettinice which is the still popular with brides, From white, Ivory (cream) or Chocolate, as well now you can have many bright colours on your cake or cakes this has just landed in New Zealand With bright colours such as red, black etc be very careful, it would be advisable to have a dummy cake. Also which is proving popular with modern Brides is chocolate truffle, available in White (cream) or chocolate. Today your choices are endless.
Q. I Have My Mother or A Relative Wishing To Make A Fruit Cake or Cakes For Our Wedding, Can You Ice And Decorate It For Us?
Yes, we are happy to ice it and decorate it to your requirements, but take no responsibility of the condition of the cake or cakes.
Q. Can I Have Fresh Flowers On My Wedding Cake?
Yes, you can have fresh flowers on your cake but please be careful in choosing your flowers for your cake, talk with your florist, as fresh flowers can cause problems with your icing due to the chemical sprays etc mostly the flowers are to large and not appropriate size for the cake of cakes. We can not take responsibility for flowers added to by other parties, as most flowers shown on my website are all hand made flowers made from icing.
Q. What Areas Do You Deliver To?
Margaret delivers within the Mosgiel / Dunedin Area only. There is a separate charge for delivery and setting up your cake. This is a personal service which is done in Margaret's own time to ensure that your cake or cakes reaches your wedding venue in perfect condition. Other areas will deliver if asked or a relative or friend may do this for you.
Q. Do You Hire Cake Tins?
Yes, Margaret has many cake tins designs for you to choose from. Round and square are the popular shapes at present, but if you wish to be a little different look up the website.
Q. Do You Hire Cake Stands?
We can offer for your wedding a large selection of cake stands. There is a bond on each stand to cover any damage and a charge is made for each stand. You are responsible for the care of it while it is in your possession as it was given in good condition. To be returned by two days after your wedding date.
Q. What other items do your offer to hire?
Also for hire the following:
3 piece White Wrought Iron Bridal Archway suitable to fit a car. Suitable for your outdoor wedding or at your reception. A bond and charge is made and must paid before hiring, the archway to be returned within two days after your wedding or event.
Silver Rodd Cake Knife: To finish off your wedding cake at your reception, Cakes For All Occasions can offer you this service of providing you their family Knife, if your wedding venue does not have one. Knife must be returned two days after your wedding. It is your responsibility to return within the date Signed for on return-if not an extra fee will now be charged.
Cake Fountain -3 parts with stand, fountain, plus adaptor: For that something different to display your cake or cakes this may be your answer. Must be distilled water only.
Q. Do I Need To Pay A Deposit?
Yes a deposit of 50% to cover cake ingredients is required at time of confirmation of cake order. Balance of your order is to be paid at least one week before wedding. If you cancel your order just before your wedding date, and your cake has been making and icing has started no refund will now been given. This is now our policy.
